on a windy winter sunday morning
the girls and women from our church,
that participate in the sewing project,
displayed their work from the last few years
we start with their patchwork "sheets"
which was their project for 2011
it started with applications
they choose from existing examples
and asked for different aplications
which we designed together
after that, they put the squares together
and sewed everything together by hand
there is no batting in between the layers
1. i don´t know where to get that here
2. way to warm when you want to use the patchwork as a bedcover
3. if availabe here it is NOT affordable for the women
i decided to use material
they can afford
and easy to find
if they want to start something themselves
it needs to be possible for them to start
without spending a lot of money
for the applications we used
sewing threat which they doubled or tripled
12 rolls of sewing threat (different colours)
you can get at the local market for a bit more than €1 less than US$ 2
(turns out 10 eurocent per roll)
Anabela, Helena, Esperança, me, Loloca, Sifa, Aticha, Joana (and Deborah), Rabia
i bought a few capalanas (local fabric)
and we used scrap pieces and old clothes
after piecing the blocks together
and adding the back
they started quilting
with embroidery
proud ladies
all of their work is for themselve
and not for sale
but recently the girls started
on their very first order
soooooooo
exciting
now they shall earn some money
with their work
later more
about the other things they made
enjoy your weekend!
