meninas e bonecas

Today I had sewing classes with young women and girls from our church

Our church is situated on a large property just outside town

Not to far from the airport

On the property is a primary school,

sport grounds, a dormitory for girls

who, for whatever reason, cannot live at home

(to far from the city, orphans, no money in the family for schooling etc etc) and our church

We meet in this small rondavel

After finishing a patchwork quilt last year

They crocheted tin-covers

And now we are busy making BONECAS

fabric DOLLS

and they surely enjoy that

and so do I

come take a look with me…

We have different shaped and sized dolls.

BIG

Small

FAT

Slim

Round

Square

Oval

Triangle (!)

Loooooooooooong arms

Even lloooooooooooooonger legs

Short arms

Short legs

Bonecas with a face

And bonecas without a face

(Later a show of the different bonecas)

Aticha is cutting fabric for her new doll.

I made templates (suggestion of a friend)

Initially the girls designed their own doll so no need for templates

But after a few they noticed what models they like and what not.

Now we have a template for

Square

Triangle

(find that still a bit of a tricky model but they loooove it)

Oval

And a variety of heads

For now the arms and the legs

Do not need a template

Easy cut and go

Agira (in purple) and Helena (in yellow)

are working on the dolls clothes

Pink/blue and flowery blue

Dresses

Rabia is busy preparing legs for her triangle kind of boneca

that waits patiently on the floor

Of course

She wants a dress for this model as well

Lets wait and see

When it is finished

what it can wear…

One of the many bonecas/dolls made by the girls

And….

May I present to you

KASILTA

Our youngest member

She is 4 years old

And comes every week with her mother and baby sister

She

Started today

with her very first project

she is making a little bag

for her money

she has a coin

and now she can keep it in the little pouch or bag.

See how she is enjoying herself

at  first a bit shy

and later very proud of herself

well done Kasilta!!!
